We also went on a garner trip of course and had a great trip. Mady was going into ninth-grade and there was a big group of ninth-grade girls to spend the week with. Sikes brought a camper and stayed for a week. The normal group of families, Vasquez,Mcbrides and Eddie Tamez. Beau and Brandy went and one night we all over served ourselves and Beau and his buddies from work started screaming “UNCLE BOB” from the Urban Cowboy because it was raining and lightning, I just knew were going to get kicked out. We also had a great time just sitting at the river. This year was really peaceful and relaxing and I enjoyed the visits with everyone. One thing that happened though was Brad cut his leg. We were sitting in the water and Brad and a group of boys came up and one said Brad cut his leg, of course I am thinking the worst. I pictured a huge gash but it wasn’t. He was standing on a paddleboat and stuck his foot through the paddles and it sliced his shin pretty good. I want to thank Scott Combs. His family was with us and we enjoyed spending time with them they’re good folks who I enjoyed a lot, well he immediately got up and said he would meet us at the camp and he would go get his bag, he works for the fire department and has EMT experience. He could’ve stayed and relaxed in the river but he took time to help and I really appreciate it thanks Scott. I felt like it was from a scene out of Field Dreams when the little girl was choking on a hotdog the kid who turned into the doctor left the field instead of continuing to play and was never able to return. Scott could go back to the river but it was a long walk back. He fixed Brad right up and he didn’t even need stitches, it will be a good little scar on his leg. We also met an old man who was cooking Mexican rice and hot sauce and ribs. He stays about six months a year and he invited us over and it was the greatest food ever. Tressa even learned how to make the hot sauce. It was a great time Al and Robert Sanchez went on and on about how good and authentic it was.
The biggest story of all was the ride home, we had three flats on two trailers. Yes 3!!!! We packed up and left around 10 AM, Sikes had left about 930 he was a little nervous because he hadn’t pulled the trailer before so we are driving along he calls saying he has had a flat. He said he was pulling over and I said we would be there shortly. He fixed the flat and headed out about an hour later he calls and has another flat. He needs my spare I catch up to him and we change the other flat using my spare. My spare is low on air so we go slowly to a gas station and fill it up and we are headed out. We get into Katy and I say to tressa “man we would be in trouble if we had a flat” Yep!!! 10 minutes later we get a flat I pull over to a Jack-in-the-Box Sikes goes to discount tire and we have to buy another tire. An hour later he shows up and we change our tire. So we are on the road again, five minutes later it starts pouring down rain which made it an incrediblly long day. So we finally make it home at 8 PM that night it took us 10 hours to get home after three flats and pouring rain. Needless to say it was a great trip with a huge group of great friends. Every year my kids have been building memories. Meomeries much bigger than I can imagine. Hopefully someday they can look back and tell stories of all the Garner trips and good times.
Ya’ll be safe out there!!
